Chris Fetner, director of global content partners operations at Netflix, is expected to address technical standards issues surrounding streaming content during an opening keynote at the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers’ annual Technical Conference & Exhibition. The confab takes place Oct. 21-23 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood.
SMPTE is a society for the engineering community, and its work involves setting global technical standards that support the motion picture and TV industries. The selection of Fetner as the keynote speaker underscores the work that the society is doing in streaming and new media, which includes setting the parameters for closed captioning of online content.
Prior to joining Netflix, Fetner held the roles of postproduction and operations executive at Discovery Communications, and vp postproduction and technical services at BBC Worldwide in New York.
Also featured as a conference speaker, Darcy Antonellis, CEO of multiplatform service provider Vubiquity, will keynote the SMPTE Fellows luncheon, which is attended by those engineers who have attained SMPTE’s highest rank of Fellow. Mark Aitken, vp advanced technology at Sinclair Broadcast Group, will keynote the conference luncheon, which is attended by all event attendees.
Antonellis previously served as president of technical operations and CTO at Warner Bros. Entertainment. Earlier, she held various management roles at CBS.
In addition to representing Sinclair Broadcast interests in industry technical and standards issues, Aitken is involved in the FCC Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Services.
