FARMERVILLE, Louisiana —

Foster Farms is recalling about 39,747 pounds of frozen pre-cooked chicken products due to possible contamination.

In an announcement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the aforementioned chicken is possibly contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, which can potentially cause listeriosis.

The frozen “Chicken Breast Grilled Strips” came in 3.5-lb. plastic resealable bags and were made on August 5. They were shipped to retail warehouses in California, Texas, Utah and Washington.

The packages have the establishment number “P-33901” and a Best by Date of “08-05-15.”

Listeriosis primarily affects older people, people with weak immune systems, pregnant women and their newborns. The infection can cause fever, confusion, muscle aches, stiff neck, headache, loss of balance, convulsions, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms.

More serious effects include negatively impacted births and fatalities.

Foster Farms and FSIS are concerned some of the chicken is still frozen and in people’s freezers.
