AUBURN-

One of the teens accused of setting fire to a graduation stage pleaded not guilty Monday in Placer County Superior Court.

Roy Jordan Loya, a Roseville High School senior, is one of two teens suspected of burning the very stage they were supposed to walk across early Thursday morning. Loya, 18, and 17-year-old Joe Evans were arrested later that morning.

By the following evening, a new stage had been donated by area businesses for Friday’s graduation ceremony.

The fire caused about $100,000 in damage, investigators said.

Loya remains in custody with his bail set at $150,000. He is formally being charged with conspiracy, arson and vandalism.

Evans’ case is being handled by the Juvenile Court system, and no other information was given.

Loya is expected back in court June 19, where is bail amount will be reviewed.
