Truckee’s new “Live Like a Local” crowd sourced contest

What does the perfect Truckee day look like? That depends on who you ask. And while there’s nothing quite like living and working in Truckee, the definition of “working” and “living” vary from person to person.

That’s why the Truckee Donner Chamber’s digital media team has come up with a fresh and saucy “Live Like a Local” campaign. Tying in with many #TruckeeMoments sentiments, Truckee’s popular lifestyle hashtag, it aims to find out and share.

The grassroots, community campaign encourages locals to share their insider tips on the best things to do, be and see in Truckee. The #LiveLikeaLocal campaign poses a series of questions to participants such as: Describe your perfect Truckee day; Where are your favorite spots to hang out on a Friday-Saturday night in Truckee? Tell us about your favorite Truckee activity — where, when and why.

These tips will be pulled together online, serving both visitors and locals alike. Whether you’re visiting Truckee for the first time or it’s your 30th trip to town, this collaboration offers great insights, itineraries and how-tos. If you’re a long-time resident, you might want to offer your own knowledge and take advantage of some tips you may not have been privy to. Staycation anyone?

Truckee residents have already begun to show their love for Truckee by contributing some amazing suggestions. Bill Hudson, Director of Sugar Bowl Ski Team and Academy, offers his favorite, “Nothing like catching a Truckee River trout on a dry fly.” And local photographer Scott Thompson shares his favorite hangout spot “the Art Obsessions’ wine bar”.

This is the first phase of the movement, and Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce President-CEO Lynn Saunders is looking forward to receiving feedback from locals, and hearing what they have to say and what they want to share.

“Everyone wants to live like a local when they visit a new place, find those off the beaten path restaurants or diners, places to play with their dog, or how to experience the perfect Truckee day,” said Saunders. “We know locals might feel protective of their secret spots, but there’s a lot to share without giving those away!”

As submissions are collected, prizes donated by local businesses will be awarded weekly to a randomly chosen winner.

The campaign will allow local businesses, athletes, artists, students and other community members to collectively create a list of different “Live Like a Local” activities. This list, along with other “Live Like a Local” insights, advice, itineraries and suggestions will be featured on Truckee’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Users can also submit photos to further illustrate their favorite activities.

Hashtag your tips and photos with #LiveLikeaLocal for a chance to win a bevy of prizes and see for yourself what others are saying at http://bit.ly/LiveLikeaLocal.
