Corporate media attorney Joshua Grode has been hired as transactions group co-chair and partner at Irell & Manella.
Grode, who has been a Hollywood Reporter Power Lawyer every year since 2007, joined the firm from Liner LLP, where he was a partner. He will co-chair Irell’s transactions group with current chair Gregory Klein.
His expertise is in corporate dealmaking with a specialty in the entertainment and media industries. He handled the 20-year deal that brought the Weinstein Company and Miramax back together in December, securing the rights for Harvey and Bob Weinstein to produce and domestically distribute content based on the library of the studio they co-founded. His other career successes include the $412.5 million acquisition of Summit by Lionsgate in 2012 and a refinancing of Miramax’s library that raised $500 million for the studio.
He graduated from the Loyola University School of Law in 1991 and received his bachelor’s degree from UCLA in 1998.
He joins Irell & Manella’s Los Angeles office with attorneys Paul D. Swanson and Sam A. Kozhaya and associates David Evans, Esther Kang and Zachary Smith.
“Irell is one of the most prestigious firms in the country, if not the world, with world-class attorneys and resources. I look forward to working with my new partners and marrying our expertise with theirs,” Grode said in a statement.
“This addition demonstrates our commitment to the continued growth of our transactions practice, which has always been a vibrant part of our firm,” Irell managing partner Andrei Iancu added in the statement. “Irell’s various practice areas time-and-again distinguish themselves as best-in-class, and this team of lawyers, led by Josh Grode, is a perfect fit into our culture of excellence.”
