When Big Hero 6 is released on Nov. 6, Marvel fans might want to pay particularly close attention to the scene set in the room belonging to the movie’s resident fanboy, Fred (voiced by T.J. Miller).
“I will say we generally have a lot of Easter eggs in this movie to the point that we had to really tell our artists to knock it off,” director Chris Williams admitted in /Film. “Because, you know, everyone wants to place stuff. We grew up loving Marvel movies. We, of course, grew up loving animated movies. And now we have a potential to sort of place these things.”
Don Hall, who also directed the animated adaptation of the Marvel property, added that Marvel “was was actually pretty cool and gave us like the, you know, the nod to put a few… I would say Z level characters in the movie. As little Easter eggs. And they’re in Fred’s room. So it might be a good place to look.”
Williams, who called the Marvel characters making quiet cameos in that scene “very obscure,” said that, eventually, he and Hall had to limit the amount of references in the movie. “It got to the point where Don and I are feeling like this is getting to be too much, too distracting. So we stopped them and then actually pulled a couple things out,” he said. “But at the same time, we did have a lot of references to Disney animated movies and Marvel movies.”
If this means that we might finally have the big-screen debut of D-Man and American Eagle, then I think we can all agree it’s about time.
