OWN is renewing its investment in Tyler Perry.
The Oprah Winfrey Network has ordered additional episodes of all four of its Perry scripted series, the cabler announced Friday.
OWN has added 23 episodes of drama The Haves and the Have Nots; 22 episodes of companion drama If Loving You Is Wrong; 22 episodes of comedy Love Thy Neighbor; and 20 episodes of comedy For Better or Worse.
“Oprah Winfrey’s partnership with Tyler Perry has been a tremendous success, garnering millions of viewers for OWN and setting ratings records,” OWN president Erik Logan said in a release announcing the orders. “Tyler’s original series have quickly become appointment viewing for a passionate audience and OWN is pleased to deliver 87 new episodes.”
Perry’s scripted series have been at the heart of OWN’s rise to a top 25 cable network in primetime among women 25-54. The Haves and the Have Nots this season has averaged more than 3 million viewers and has consistently ranked as Tuesday’s No. 1 telecast on for African-American households and total viewers. The most recent season of If Loving You is Wrong averaged more than 1.7 million viewers, with For Better or Worse drawing more than 1 million weekly viewers; Love Thy Neighbor also pulls 900,000 weekly viewers.
In addition to Perry’s four scripted series — For Better or Worse was an import from TBS — OWN also recently ordered Natalie Baszile adaptation Queen Sugar with Winfrey attached to star from Selma director Ava DuVernay.
