ELK GROVE-
The man suspected of killing an Elk Grove mother is still at large Thursday, according to police sources, who tell FOX40 his name is Moses Valdez.
And Sacramento resident Rosie Jimenez knows that name all to well.
“Moses Valdez. He shot my boy,” she said.
According to court documents, Valdez served time for her son’s killing.
In 1993, records indicate that Valdez shot and killed Jimenez’s 24-year-old son, Christopher, and his 19-year-old friend of the same name.
“He killed my son. He killed my son’s friend. There was 2 murders that day,” Jimenez said.
Valdez claimed self-defense back in ’93, but the prosecution argued it was a fight over a girl.
In the end, Valdez was sentenced to 18 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter.
But he was paroled some years later, never spending the full sentence behind bars.
Valdez is shocked that the man convicted of killing her son is not in prison.
“I am scared,” she said. “I do not want him out.”
Years later, Valdez got in trouble again. This time, for running from the cops. That was his third strike.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison but, when Prop 36 passed two years ago, he walked once again.
“I’ve been hurt for a long long time thinking about him. Thinking, ‘Why did they do that to him?'” Jimenez said.
Today, candles sit outside 37-year-old Marrisa Almanza’s Elk Grove apartment. Police have not confirmed how or why anyone would want the air-force reservist dead.
“I feel sorry for the lady,” Jimenez said. “I know what the mother or father is going through, same way as I did.”
