STOCKTON —
A pair of pit bulls are in custody after reportedly attacking multiple people in Downtown Stockton this morning.
According to police, the dogs attacked a 53-year-old man in front of City Hall. The man fell down to the ground requesting attention, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Another man claims the same two dogs bit his hand near Yosemite and Fremont Street. The two dogs also reportedly mauled a cat.
The dogs then charged an animal control officer, who had to retreat to the Stockton Police Department near Center and Washington Street.
The dogs charged at a police officer, who fired a shot, striking one of the dogs. The injured pit bull continued to run, but later collapsed near a bank across from the police department.
The second pit bull was caught shortly after.
Both pit bulls are alive. The injured dog was taken to a veterinarian, while the second dog was taken to the Animal Shelter. It is currently unclear how the two animals escaped.
The 53-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
“So far the owners are talking to animal control service officers,” said Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva, “They’re cooperating. So based off the different type of scenarios of how the dogs got out, why they were unsupervised, then we’ll make a determination exactly what will happen to the dogs.”
