Introducing your first look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel’s Doctor Strange — well, kind of.

— Scott Derrickson (@scottderrickson) December 22, 2014
Scott Derrickson, who will direct 2016’s first step into the supernatural realm for Marvel Studios, shared an image on Twitter Sunday showing Cumberbatch with a Stephen Strange-esque goatee, overlaid with a suitably-cosmic star field and accompanied by a Talking Heads quote. Whether this is official promotional art for the movie — the first since Cumberbatch was officially confirmed in the role — or merely fan art isn’t clear, although the latter seems more likely considering the lack of Marvel promotion for the image.
Written by Jon Spaihts, the plot for Doctor Strange was described by Marvel as following “neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.”
The movie will be released Nov. 4, 2016.
