Announced a long, long time ago (actually, May 2013), Star Wars: Battlefront — the latest installment in a series of video games that will allow players to experience the battles from George Lucas‘ famous space opera series for themselves — will finally be unveiled to the public next month as part of Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim.
The announcement came in a blog post on publisher Electronic Arts’ website, noting that developers “could not think of a better or more appropriate place to debut the game officially for the first time than the premier event that celebrates the Star Wars universe and the legions of fans who have fallen in love with it.”
The game — technically the third in the Battlefront series, following releases in 2004 and 2005 from Lucasfilm’s now-defunct video game arm — has been in the works for some time. At last year’s E3 Expo, Electronic Arts released a video showing developers DICE researching Star Wars mythology to create the best game possible.
More information about Battlefront‘s debut will be released in the next few weeks, ahead of the Celebration event itself, which runs April 16-19 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Also appearing at the event are J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy, as well as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and the cast and crew of the Disney XD series Star Wars: Rebels.
