Nymphomaniac star Charlotte Gainsbourg is in talks to join Fox’s Independence Day 2, which will star Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher.
It has been nearly two decades since the Will Smith-starring sci-fi film hit theaters, grossing more than $800 million worldwide at the box office. Director Roland Emmerich will return to helm the film, while Jeff Goldblum is returning to reprise his role as David Levinson.
Independence Day 2 is set for release on June 24, 2016 — almost exactly 20 years from when the first film hit theaters on July 3, 1996. Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser are producing. James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright wrote the most recent draft.
Gainsbourg has worked on several of Lars von Trier‘s films including Antichrist, Melancholia and both Nymphomaniac films. Her other credits include The Science of Sleep and I’m Not There.
She’ll next work on drama Oppenheimer Strategies opposite Dan Stevens, Richard Gere and Michael Sheen. She’s repped by UTA, 42, Artmedia in France and Bloom Hergott.
