The full lineup of Marvel Entertainment‘s All-New, All-Different Avengers has been unveiled, revealing a team that features some of the company’s most recent success stories — and one that addresses a couple of concerns from fans following the announcement of the Secret Wars event.
As revealed by Wired UK, the new team — which premieres in May’s Free Comic Book Day Avengers offering — is made up of Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Vision, Nova and Miles Morales, formerly the alternate-world Spider-Man of Marvel’s Ultimate imprint.
In a first for the franchise, this means that team is predominantly non-white (although recent spinoff title Mighty Avengers had managed this feat already), with Marvel senior vp and executive editor Tom Brevoort pointing out to Wired that the new team “more closely reflects the world outside your window.” (He also called the lineup “an all-new, all-different Avengers for an all-new, all-different Marvel universe,” potentially fueling speculation that Secret Wars will end with a reboot for the company’s comic book universe.)
The cover confirms that both the “new” Thor and Captain America will remain in place following Secret Wars, despite fan worries that the original versions of the characters would regain their positions during the summer storyline, and also that Miles Morales will apparently “cross over” worlds to the main Marvel Earth following the shuttering of the Ultimate imprint that he was created for.
All-New, All-Different Avengers‘ FCBD issue will be written by Mark Waid with art by Mahmud Asrar, and be available May 2 from comic book stores. In the same issue, a preview of the previously announced Uncanny Inhumans will introduce the Fantastic Four‘s Human Torch as a member of the cast, a move sure to convince fans of the rumor that Marvel plans to leave the Fantastic Four title canceled for some time.
