With Empire out of the picture, CBS swiped the first Wednesday win from Fox since the top of 2015. The trio of Survivor (2.2 rating adults 18-49), Criminal Minds (2.0 adults) and CSI: Cyber (1.4 adults) all held steady with their latest showings.
Over on Fox, American Idol was in line with last week’s two-hour live outing on Thursday — averaging a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49. But that marked a steep drop from its last one-hour Wednesday effort, when it pulled a 2.4 rating partnered with Empire.

Several ABC comedies took significant same-day spills. The Middle (1.8 adults) fell four-tenths from its last original, while The Goldbergs (2.0 adults) shed half of a point and Modern Family (2.8 adults) dropped six-tenths. Black-ish (2.1 adults) proved comparatively steady, off just two-tenths of a point.
The Mysteries of Laura (1.0 adults) dropped four-tenths of a point, while Law & Order: SVU (1.3 adults) fell three-tenths of a point at 9 p.m. NBC closed the night with a steady Chicago P.D. (1.5 adults).
Both Arrow (1.0 adults) and Supernatural (0.7 adults) held steady on the CW.
