The second Jupiter Ascending international trailer was the most viewed coming attraction for the week ending June 2, according to technology firm Zefr, which tracks the numbers on YouTube. The clip registered 7.7 million views.
On June 3, Warner Bros. bumped the movie from its July 18 release to Feb. 6, 2015, saying the estimated $150 million film needed more special effects work.
The Andy and Lana Wachowski-directed space opera stars Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum. The first trailer, released in December, did 4.9 million views in its first week. The 7.7 million for this latest clip, while good enough to win the week, fell short of the views that the biggest summer movies attracted. None of the Jupiter Ascending trailers were among the top five cumulatively viewed summer trailers.
The debut trailer for Kingsman: The Secret Service, starring Colin Firth and directed by Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) and featuring Samuel L. Jackson and Mark Hamill, landed in the second spot. The film opens Oct. 24.
The other new trailer in the top five was the adaptation of Jonathan Tropper’s novel This Is Where I Leave You in fourth with 3.1 million YouTube views. The Jason Bateman vehicle also got a great reception at BookExpo in New York.
Transformers: Age of Extinction trailer No. 2 held steady at No. 3 with 4.5 million YouTube views.
Last week’s No. 1, Interstellar, dropped to No. 4, with 2.6 million views.
Rounding out the top 10 were, in descending order, Edge of Tomorrow, Get on Up, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Wish I Was Here and The Fault in Our Stars, which has quietly amassed 22.7 million cumulative views.
