During a recent review of some of the political mailers received in Elk Grove, a colleague and I were informally grading the effectiveness of each piece. When we came upon a recent independent expenditure  committee mailer, we initially gave it a relatively high grade.

This particular piece, which was sent on behalf of State Senate candidate Dr. Richard Pan got a high grade because it personalized the mailer. But upon further review, it got a failing grade.

Lest we get accused of a case of the pot calling the kettle black, given the amount of money involved, this was beyond a typo or incorrect date.

The reason it received a failing grade - it misidentified Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones as Scott Brown. We are not sure where this piece was produced - perhaps New Hampshire or Massachusetts!

Well at least Dr. Pan didn't have his hand in this mess up.
