SACRAMENTO-

A chocolaty snack allegedly handed out in between periods by an 8th grader at Sam Brannan Middle School Thursday has left one student arrested, one in the hospital and 10 suspended.

“A girl brought brownies with drugs in it. Some of their friends knew they had drugs in it,” 8th grader Keshlie Homs told FOX40.

A female student handed out 10 pot brownies to fellow classmates, according to students.

A district spokesperson says some knew the brownies were laced with pot and others had no idea. The snacks caused several students to throw up, according to police.

By the afternoon, parents received an automated voice-message from the school’s principal, explaining the situation. Many of them were standing by anxiously when the bell rang today.

“I’m going to ask my daughter if she had any right when school is out,” parent Jeffrey Wong said.

A district spokesperson told FOX40:

“There is nothing more important than the health and safety of our students. The school and district have begun a thorough investigation and appropriate disciplinary action is underway for all students who distributed or knowingly consumed illegal substances. We take this matter very seriously.”

The spokesperson would not confirm how the student got the brownies.
