YUBA CITY-

The Yuba-Sutter Net 5 drug task force took down the largest honey oil lab to date in the area.

Two labs were found near the community of Rackerby deep in the Yuba County foothills.

The primary location contained industrial grade stainless steel ovens and extractors where the active ingredient in marijuana is extracted by infusing butane gas.

The resulting honey oil, or hash oil, is sold in paper thin sheets that are much more potent than pot plants, odorless and easier to transport.

Drug agents say it can also be used in e-cigarettes in plain site because there is no smell. Almost $200,000 worth of honey oil was found, along with 400 pounds of marijuana, used as a raw material.

Seven people were arrested and several children were taken into protective custody. Honey oil labs known to cause explosions because of the use of butane. A number of loaded weapons were also found in the residences which also posed a hazard to the children.

Last year, 10 labs were found in the Yuba-Sutter area. The year before that there was one. Drug agents say it’s a trend that may continue because of the profitability and ease of manufacture of the honey oil.
