Following the announcement that Marvel’s comic book universe would come to an end as part of this summer’s Secret Wars event, the company unveiled the “Last Days” branding, created to identify stories featuring the final moments of characters ahead of their universe’s destruction. Now we know which three series will launch the brand: Loki, Agent of Asgard, Magneto and Captain America and the Mighty Avengers.
All three titles will launch the “Last Days” brand in May, with both Loki and Magneto‘s storyline running four issues, while Captain America and the Mighty Avengers will only last two.
In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Loki and Captain America and the Mighty Avengers writer Al Ewing said that he was “confirming/denying nothing” when asked if the storylines meant the end of the series. “You’ll have to wait and see what happens,” he added. Similarly, when talking to Newsarama.com about his Magneto storyline, writer Cullen Bunn refused to be drawn about the long-term future of the series, only offering that “If the book were to end, I think this arc would wrap things up quite nicely.”
If “Last Days” does bring the series to an end, the conclusion of Captain America and the Mighty Avengers will mean the fourth ending for an Avengers series announced by Marvel in the last month (Avengers, New Avengers and Secret Avengers will all have their final issues in April). The company has already announced All-New, All-Different Avengers, a possible replacement title, for release during May’s Free Comic Book Day.
