WEST SACRAMENTO-

A hay bale fire in West Sacramento is sending smoke throughout the region Tuesday evening.

No structures are threatened by the flames, but a smokey odor was noticeable across the river in downtown Sacramento.

It’s unknown what started the fire.

Hay fires are typically allowed to burn out, but firefighters say Tuesday’s wind made that option too risky.
