The Rockets are 'very high' on bringing back Jeremy Lin

The Jeremy Lin Experience in Houston may not have played its final show.

According to Bleacher Report's Howard Beck, in a "Where Are They Now"-feeling segment considering Beck covered the height of Linsanity when he was at The New York Times, the Rockets are interested in bringing Lin back next year.

Lin is 26 and is having a worse year in Los Angeles -- where there are presumably more opportunities to score than he ever had playing next to James Harden in Houston -- than he did in his two years in red. He's averaging 10.4 points and 4.6 assists per game, while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and a career high 37.4 percent from distance.

Beck said the Rockets "remain high" on Lin and will be "among the chief suitors" to sign him when he's a free agent this summer. He's a free agent because the $25 million deal Daryl Morey gave him three years ago -- at this point one of the worse moves Morey has made -- is expiring.

"I was able to establish myself, create an identity," Lin told Beck. "I can be a better version of what I was in Houston. And I'm hopeful that through time I'll be able to do that."

Patrick Beverley's contract is up after this season. So is Jason Terry's. In the event the Rockets are able to trade for Goran Dragic before the Feb. 19 trade deadline, he would also be a free agent. No matter what, it's basically an inevitability that the Rockets will be suitors for multiple free agent point guards this year.

Still, this is a little disconcerting for those among us who would like to see Isaiah Canaan at least get a real shot at point guard. Free agency is a long time away, but the Rockets figure to be an ideal destination for any point guard who doesn't care about how many shots he gets. I hope, if Lin does come back, he's here as a backup and for very, very cheap.
