LINCOLN-

Lincoln is the fastest growing small city in America, according to a new census bureau report, which indicates that the population increased by 282 percent between 2000 and 2010.

With a population of about 44,000, City Manager Matt Brower says the Lincoln has a lot of space other cities don’t have.

“Commercial businesses generally chase rooftops,” Brower said. “We have a lot of growth and opportunities for businesses.”

Within the past few months, the city issued 140 new business licenses within the city.

Plus, spokesperson Jill Thompson adds that shoppers pay no city sales tax in Lincoln, one reason big box stores are highly attracted to Lincoln’s economy.

The Census Bureau report also indicates Elk Grove is one of the fastest growing mid-sized cities in the country.
