Homeland producers Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon say their years on 24 inspired them to do something different with Showtime’s Homeland.
“We wanted to be subversive,” says Gansa.
Gordon, who worked with Gansa on 24, says the Kiefer Sutherland starrer “became the lens through which a lot of the country looked at 9/11.”
“When Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and some poorly prosecuted wars started coming back, we started gong, ‘Wait a second. Are we contributing to this environment of Islamophobia?’ ” recalls Gordon.
Adds Gansa: “Homeland was created as partly a reaction formation to that experience.”
The pair made their comments during a Hollywood Reporter photoshoot, that gathered 24 legendary TV producers for one unforgettable class picture.
