TBS is hoping the lives behind one of The Daily Show‘s real-life couples translates to success.
The Turner-owned cable network is teaming with Daily Showcorrespondents — and married couple — Jason Jones and Samantha Bee for an untitled comedy pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Jones, who will star, and Bee will pen the pilot for TBS, which is producing. The project is inspired by their experiences on family getaways. The comedy will follow a family as they take a road trip to Key West. Jones will play hopeful dad Nate, who hops in the car with his wife and two young kids for a 24-hour adventure to the Keys. This comedy will prove that close proximity can lead a family to get on each other’s nerves but precarious situations and interactions with strangers can bring them together again.
Should the comedy go to series, each season would chronicle a different trip.
“As we continue to move TBS in new and exciting directions, we believe that comedies like this will truly resonate with our target audience of young adults,” said Brett Weitz, senior vp scripted development at TBS and TNT. “We’re thrilled to be working with Jason & Sam Bee, two of The Daily Show‘s breakout stars and two of the funniest writers in the business.”
For TBS, the comedy marks the first of its new pilot crop after the cabler picked up Steve and Nancy Carell‘s Rashida Jones cop comedy Angie Tribeca, David Kohan and Max Mutchnick‘s Buzzy’s as well as Greg Malins and Jamie Tarses’ Your Family Or Mine to series.
The Jones-Bee comedy also marks the second project that TBS will produce in-house — joining Tribeca, which coincidentally also hails from a married couple behind the scenes.
Should the Jones-Bee comedy move to series, it would join the network’s comedy roster that also includes Ground Floor, the 11th season of Fox import American Dad as well as the final season of Cougar Town. A decision on the future of Sullivan & Son has not yet been determined.
For Jones, this marks his latest scripted foray following last season’s NBC pilot Love Is Relative (where he also played a father named Nate) and ABC comedy pilot Divorce: A Love Story before that. He’s repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.
Bee, meanwhile, is the Daily Show’s longest-serving regular correspondent of all time. She’s repped by UTA, Parent Management, Brillstein and Stone Meyer.
