The e-gus off-season plan

Magic Johnson Style off-season for me. Give me everybody.

The Gus Sox want me? Yes!
The Gus Sox want me? Yes!
Dilip Vishwanat

I haven't read any of these yet, but I'm impressed by the sheer volume of them, and have wanted to get my two cents in but haven't found the time, so here is my cliff notes version. Basically, I want the Sox to go big. Is this very feasible? Hell no. Would they flirt with 100 wins if they went this route? Abso-freakin'-lutely. Probably in August.

There are fewer big names to hit the free agent market every year these days. It's the nature of the beast. The White Sox have some serious holes to fill, but fortunately every single spot they have that needs improvement has a big name mercenary out there at the position, and baby I want them all.

First, old business-

  • Ronald Belisario, $3.9M -Bye
  • Tyler Flowers, $2.1M -oh so tender
  • Dayan Viciedo, $4.4M - see ya.
  • Hector Noesi, $1.9M - buh bye
  • Nate Jones, $600,000. -you may stay
  • Javy Guerra $1.3M (if he is a Super Two) -yeah what the hell, tender him too

Free Agent Pitchers-

Are you good at throwing a baseball? Get your ass in black.

Jon Lester - He's the best FA pitcher, sign him. -whatever it takes

Load up on bullpen help-

Huston Street, David 'the admiral' Robertson, Neal Cotts -2 years each

Brett Anderson - take a flyer on him, and stick him in the pen with John Danks -2 years

This gives us a rotation of Chris Sale, Jon Lester, Jose Quintana, Carlos Rodon, and Chris Bassett. Two big question marks at the end there, so if you really want to go nuts, sign the Jakemeister, too.

The bullpen has Jones(at some point), Guerra, Street, Robertson, and starter conversions Danks and Anderson from the left side, plus whatever bubbles to the surface of the Surkamp variety.

Free Agent Bats-

Nelson Cruz, welcome to left field. If the O's keep him, give me Markakis. If they keep both, Aoki I guess.

Chase Headley, you got the hot corner. 4 years max.

Ryan Doumit, you are our catcher against the occassional RHP with Flowers getting the lions share.

Victor Martinez, you are the new DH, with Aramis Ramirez as the back up plan.

This makes for a right handed heavy line up, but at least Headley and Doumit switch hit.

25 man roster

  • Chris Sale
  • Jon Lester
  • Jose Quintana
  • Carlos Rodon
  • Chris Bassitt
  • John Danks
  • Brett Anderson
  • Nate Jones
  • Javy Guerra
  • Huston Street
  • David Robertson
  • Daniel Webb
  • Neal Cotts
  • Jose Abreu
  • Marcus Semien (starting 2b)
  • Carlos Sanchez
  • Alexei Ramirez
  • Chase Headley
  • Connor Gillaspie
  • Nelson Cruz
  • Adam Eaton
  • Jordan Danks
  • Avisail Garcia
  • Moises Sierra
  • Victor Martinez or Aramis Ramirez

That would be one meaty line up baby, and when they are 10 games over .500 going into May asses will fill those seats when school gets out and start to make up for the money it cost to make this crazy video game team. Alexei is getting long in the tooth, give him a shot at it while he is still elite, the rest of the money will come from season ticket sales from all the people wanting play-off and World Series tickets.
