Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is seeing his personal investment in the film Begin Again pay off.
“Lost Stars,” the song written by Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois and performed by Levine himself in the movie, has earned an Academy Award nomination for best original song. The track also is featured on the soundtrack to Begin Again, which happens to be the first release for 222 Records, Levine’s three-year-old label in partnership with Interscope. Its second release was Maroon 5’s fifth studio album, V.
In the movie, directed by John Carney (Once), Levine plays a rock star whose girlfriend (Keira Knightley) is a talented songwriter. Once their relationship is on the rocks, she decides to go solo.
Said Levine in a statement: “I have always been a huge fan of John Carney’s work, and was beyond thrilled to be given the opportunity to work with him on Begin Again. I greatly admire Gregg and Danielle’s songwriting and to have the soundtrack released via 222 Records, was a huge honor. I wish everyone involved with the project a huge congratulations.”
