MONTEREY-
A restaurant in Monterey is asking parents to keep their noisy children at home; while tourists argue the policy is not fair, the owner is not noticing a different to his bottom line.
A sign posted outside the Old Fisherman’s Grotto on Fisherman’s Wharf on the Monterey Peninsula reads: “NO STROLLERS, NO HIGH CHAIRS, NO BOOSTER CHAIRS… AND CHILDREN MAKING NOISE IN THE DINING ROOM…NOT ALLOWED.”
It’s not exactly a welcome sign.
“I think it’s not fair because I think little kids deserve to go in there,” Saquoia Barajas, a tourist, said.
“I think it’s ridiculous, I think kids need to know how to behave in restaurants and if you don’t take them to them, they don’t know how to behave and they shouldn’t be kept hidden away, so I think it’s ridiculous, kids should be allowed in restaurants,” Teresa Colombani, another tourist, said.
The owner of Fisherman’s Grotto told tv stations he doesn’t care if some people are offended.
“Well let’s put it this way, I haven’t had a down year in over 20 years, our business continues to grow,” Chris Shake, owner of Old Fisherman’s Grotto, said.
Shake says the policy has been in place for two years, and they have had signs up during that time. He did say they recently added a third sign with the policy.
