Elk Grove Bicyclists Injured, Hospitalized by Suspected Drunk Driver

Two bicyclists were hospitalized last night after they were hit by an Elk Grove man suspected of drunk driving.

Gary Ray Hubbel, 62 (pictured above), was operating a vehicle near Franklin Boulevard and Blossom Ridge Drive when he allegedly struck two bicyclist who were riding in the bike lane. Responding officers from the Elk Grove Police contacted Hubbel who reportedly displayed objective signs of impairment.

After failing a field sobriety test, Hubbel was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail where he is being held on $120,000 bail, but ineligible for release, and faces two felony charges of driving under the influence causing bodily injury. Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The two victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
