SACRAMENTO — It’s a decades-long tradition for area children with special needs and their families. The Special Kids’ Family Picnic gives those families a chance to spend the day playing at Fairytale Town in Sacramento.

The idea is to give the kids, and their parents, a break from the stresses of dealing with their disabilities in a fun, safe and supportive setting.

The event is created by Sacramento’s Active 20-30 Club, a group that’s dedicated to helping kids

“Our club is 100% nonprofit, nothing goes to us at all. We actually pay to be a part of the club. So the benefit to us is giving back to the community and seeing the smiles in the kids’ faces, and seeing the families have a really good time,” said Scott Mohn, who helped to organize the event.

Sacramento Active 20-30 pays for events like the special kids family picnic through club dues and a number of fundraisers throughout the year.
