SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento Police Department had around six blocks in a Del Paso Heights neighborhood blocked off as officers investigated a shooting that killed one person, officials said.

At 6 p.m. in Del Paso Heights two very different scenes were playing out on each side of North Avenue. On Dewitt Road, a man in his 30s was found shot in his home. Just yards south on Kern, dozens of kids celebrated a 10-year-old’s birthday.

“Makes me cringe to think that kids can’t even be outside playing in their own yard during the day,” said a neighbor who only wanted to be identified as Roger.

As of 10 p.m., police weren’t releasing any information about a suspect or motive.
