SACRAMENTO — A relationship once red hot in Redding soured enough to send Stevie Lee Boston to jail in Sacramento – at least that’s what he has to say about it.
“I didn’t know that a woman could love a person so much, that when you tell them that you’ll leave ’em that they’ll make up accusations and things like that. I didn’t know that could happen,” said Boston.
According to Redding police, the girlfriend Boston claims he was leaving was actually one of two sex slaves he kept against their will in an apartment above Boardmart Snow, Surf and Skate.
It’s an operation they began to unravel Tuesday when one of the women escaped to the Hinkle Market, saying she’d been sold from San Joaquin to Shasta counties.
Friends had feared for her safety and reported her missing the day before. Boston says he and the 21-year-old just started dating in February after he was released from the penitentiary.
“If a person’s held against their will, right, how do we live in the house together, you know what I mean? And we have pictures together, and we’re in public places together. And like she’s so happy,” he said.
Investigators say the apartment they shared showed evidence of a fight and of another enslaved woman — one whose car was seen marred with a bullet hole.
That second woman and a supposedly armed Boston were no where to be found.
They were located by Sacramento’s SWAT team Wednesday on 73rd Street at his sisters apartment where he claims the couple had come to stay.
What does Boston say about that second woman?
“I had a friend that I was helping. Like, she didn’t have a place to stay and (expletive) approved that she come and move, like, in our house where we were staying in,” Boston said.
Boston claims that friend who moved in last month was an ex-girlfriend.
Sparks apparently flew again after his current love revealed she’d cheated — something Boston’s mother says they argued over in front of her.
“She said she made a mistake…you know everybody’s not perfect. And he said mom I don’t want to deal with her no more.”
Stevie Boston’s mother didn’t want her face shown since she’s undergoing chemotherapy. She does admit her son’s had trouble with guns and gangs since he was a teen, but says pimping and human trafficking are not in his character.
“My son don’t do that kind of stuff with females,” she said.
No court date’s been scheduled yet for Boston, and bail has been denied.
