Don't fall pray to the LIFE TIME WARRANTY on any roof replacement from Home Depot. Let me enlighten you, First of all the warranty is only covers any defect of the product.

So to be clear if the shingle is deemed or found to be defective... then Home Depot will have the roof replaced under this so called LIFE TIME WARRANTY.

FACT: Direct from the product manufacture that Home Depot buys the shingles from... OUR FAILURE RATE IS LESS THAN 1%.

That's right - LESS THAN 1%. So there is a 99% yep a 99% chance you will never need this well over charged, boarder line fraud life time warranty.

FACT: An average cost for roofing is 200.00 to 285.00 per square. Buyer's beware of there sales tactics in that they only give you that day to redeem what they call a one time promotional discount. This insures them a better chance of hooking you into signing their less than adequate, very vague contract.

Leaving you no chance to get additional estimates to compare pricing.

The States Attorney's Office should investigate this. We have an appointment to speak with the new media and hopefully they can stop others from being taken advantage of.

Reason of review: Vague contract and price.

Monetary Loss: $2000.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Home Depot Pros: Corporate staff in atlanta.

No different than the warranty you get any where they sell shingles. Many people also expect these warranties to cover acts of nature, like hail.

Damage caused by hail is NOT a DEFECT, it is Damage. The warranties cover defects and that is all you should expect. They have control over how the product is manufactured, not over damage that may happen after the product is out of their hands.

Why do you expect the DEFECT rate to be higher than 1%. I would be concerned if a company was boasting about a high defect rate rather than a low rate.

Anonymous? You clearly mist the entire post.....

My point is that the shingle manufacture already has a 25 yr warranty on the shingle and that is why I don't believe Home Depot should try to profit with this.

2) Home Depots is only offering the labor warranty if the shingles are found defective and this is why I posted the 1% defect information which I think is awesome and would not want to see this higher as you suggested I thought.

My whole point here is that if you are in need of a roof, you should not contract Home Depot and you should save your money as there warranty is boarder line predatory and fraud. Maybe you might want to read the post a bit more before you comment?

I don't see in your post that they are charging for a warranty. You talk about the average cost for a square of shingles.

Yes, the manufacturer covers the shingles for defects but the labor is the bigger portion of the cost of replacing a roof. Why do you feel it is so bad that Home Depot would offer to cover the cost of labor if the shingles had a defect?

the point is the shingle manufacturer has stated that the shingle has a defect rate of less than 1/2 of a % (YES LESS THAN 1%) so what warranty would you get? A Blind person could see this as predatory and fraud. The state needs to investigate Home Depot for fraudulent practices and stop this.
