The Crown consented to bail Thursday for the man accused of dismembering and trying to dispose of the body of a Calgary woman in June.
Joshua Weise appeared via CCTV from the remand centre for his bail hearing Thursday.
“Mr. Weise is charged with interfering with the human body of Joey English. The Crown at this time has no evidence of anything further than that,” Crown prosecutor Ken McCaffrey told court.
McCaffrey said he felt he must consent to the release but added a disclaimer if Weise breaches his conditions, which include no consumption of alcohol or non-prescription drugs.
“I do want Mr. Weise to know this is the one and only time the Crown will consent to his bail,” McCaffrey said.
The body of Joey English, 25, was discovered in a treed area on the west side of the intersection of Centre Street N. and Samis Road N.E. on June 8.
Police said a passerby made the grisly discovery while on the way to work.
“I feel that I’m still waiting for her to come home. I got a phone call saying she was coming home. She never came home,” Stephanie English, Joey’s mother, said at a rally outside the Calgary Courts Centre prior to the decision.

The family said they are hoping for some answers as to what happened to English from the hearing, but are opposed to Weise’s release.
“I’ve been staying away from the rumours and I will hear for the first time what is going on,” Stephanie said.
“I feel sad for him; I have a lot of pity for him. I was raised not to have anger. I was raised not to be mean.”

The grandmother was one of about a dozen friends and family members who gathered outside court. She held her baby granddaughter tightly as she sang a song for justice for her daughter at the rally.
