Update (Thursday, July 7): Wichita police have identified a woman and man killed Wednesday afternoon in a murder-suicide victim at a southeast Wichita apartment complex.

Police say as Emily Sonneman, 24, was the victim, and Dion Stevens, 26, was the suspect.

Police say Sonneman went to her ex-boyfriend's apartment to return items. The couple had just broken their relationship after eight or nine months of dating.

Police say there was an argument and Sonneman ended up jumping from a second floor balcony. Witnesses said they heard Sonneman screaming inside apartment before she jumped.

Police say Stevens chased her outside, shooting at her. She was hit by gunfire multiple times.

Police say Sonneman was conscious when officers arrived and able to identify Stevens as the suspect. She was taken to hospital where she died.

Witnesses told police where to locate Stevens. Officers had to force entry into his apartment where they found him dead inside from a single gunshot wound.

Wichita police say there was no history of domestic violence with the couple.

Police say this marks the 12th homicide of 2016.

Update: Police say the fatal gunshot that killed a 27-year-old man in the 1700 block of S. Rock Road Wednesday afternoon, appears to have been self-inflicted. Police also identified the man as the lone suspect in the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old woman.

The double-fatal shooting occurred at the Brookwood Apartments, 1770 S. Rock Road.

The woman suffered multiple gunshots and died at a local hospital, police say. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say the 27-year-old man (the suspect) was an ex boyfriend of the woman. They say she was at the man's apartment to return property to him after they had broken up.

Update: Police confirm the woman who was shot in the shooting in the 1700 block of S. Rock Road has died.

Wichita Police Capt. Brian White says the two people fatally shot are a 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman. White said investigators believe the man may have been the shooter.

"It appears based on the evidence that we have that the male is a suspect in this case," he said.

White says it appears an argument began inside an apartment and then went outside, before going back inside. He says shots were fired inside and outside and there were several witnesses.

"We've had some witnesses who saw pieces and parts of it. We have them cooperating with the investigation and helping us out," White said.

Police say they are investigating any relationship between the man and the woman. White says they are not searching for anyone in connection to the shooting because they believe the man is their suspect.

Officers waited for a search warrant to search the apartment Wednesday afternoon.
