Rihanna wowed the crowds at the 2014 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards (CFDA) Awards in New York, where she walked the red carpet in a see-through gown.
RiRi, who was honored at Monday’s gala with the Fashion Icon of the Year award, wore a custom Adam Selman sheer gown that was encrusted with 216,000 Swarovski crystals. Selman has been creating costumes and outfits for the pop star since 2011. But it’s what she didn’t leave to the imagination that will really set tongues wagging.
American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour presented the Barbados-born star with the award. “I can compensate for all of my weaknesses with fashion,” the artist said during her acceptance speech. “Fashion should never be frustrating, it should be fun.”

Rihanna was the star of the pre-show action, her look channeling Josephine Baker, the great singer, dancer and actress whose career was immortalized in an Emmy-winning 1991 HBO biopic.
Rih has found herself in fashion’s inner circle. Everyone loves her from Riccardo Tisci Givenchy to Stella McCartney. “As long as I can remember,” she said from the stage, “fashion has been my defense mechanism.”
