Key Information about this research study:
The following is a short summary of this study to help you decide whether to be a part of this study. The purpose of this study is to collect basic characteristic and demographic information from PsyberGuide users. We will use the information we collect to create and modify our content to best suit our users needs, and create a foundation for future research directions of PsyberGuide. You will be asked to complete an online, anonymous survey that should take no more that fifteen minutes to complete.


Why am I being asked to take part in this research study?
We are asking you to take part in this survey because you visited the PsyberGuide website, and we’d like to learn more about the PsyberGuide community.


What should I know about a research study?

  • Whether or not you take part is up to you.
  • You can choose not to take part.
  • You can agree to take part and later change your mind.
  • Your decision will not be held against you.

What happens if I do not want to be in this research, or if I say “Yes”, but I change my mind later?
You can decide not to participate in this research or you can start and then decide to leave the research at any time and it will not be held against you. To do so, simply exit the survey. Any data already collected will not be saved.


What happens to the information collected for the research?

We will not collect any identifying information from you. Only certified members of the research team will have access to the anonymous data. We will take all possible measures to protect your information, but we cannot promise complete secrecy. Organizations that may inspect and copy your information include the Institutional Review Board of Northwestern University, and other representatives of Northwestern University.

Anonymized responses from this survey may be used in scientific outputs included publications and presentations as well as members of PsyberGuide research and management team as well as funders Information collected from this study may also be used in scientific papers or presentations; any data used for that purpose will be analyzed in aggregate form, and not on an individual basis.

This survey can be completed online, on your own time, at a personal computer. The survey is hosted by RedCAP, and involves a secure connection. Terms of service, addressing confidentiality, may be viewed here.


What else do I need to know?

We do not expect that completing this survey will introduce any risk that you wouldn’t encounter in everyday life. It is possible that some of the questions on the survey may be uncomfortable, or cause some level of distress. If you do not feel comfortable answering a question, feel free to skip it.

After you complete the survey, you will have the option to opt-in to future correspondence with PsyberGuide. If you decide to provide your contact information, it will be kept entirely separate from all data collected during the survey. If you decide to offer your contact information, and would later like to remove yourself from all PsyberGuide databases, you can do so by e-mailing the Web Manager at diana.steakley-freeman@northwestern.edu.
