A new wave of software-centric carriers are eliminating the barriers to accessing telephony resources through the development of communications APIs & SDKs. These providers are transforming the industry by giving enterprise developers direct access to carrier-grade calling and messaging capabilities. Thousands of use cases that previously seemed out of reach for most enterprises are now a reality for anyone who can code. In fact, Transparency Research expects telecom API market revenue to reach US$323.44 Bn by 2022.

Which is why we are so excited to announce the general availability of Numbers v2. With the Flowroute Numbers API, developers can automate the following operations:

  • List your account phone numbers
  • List details on a phone number
  • List North American area codes and exchanges served by the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) with purchasable phone numbers
  • Purchase a phone number from available Flowroute inventory
  • Update primary and failover voice routes for your phone numbers
  • Create and list inbound routes for your account

What is new in Numbers v2?

  • Authentication: Numbers v2 utilizes HTTP Basic Auth to significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to integrate into new apps and services.
  • Request/response formats: Numbers v2 is JSON-API compliant which provides a  uniform experience and enables faster integration.
  • Phone number search: Customers have an expanded toolset to search for and filter the telephone numbers of their choice within their budgets.
  • Route management: Numbers v2 provides enhanced search options for route management and the ability to configure primary and failover routes separately which enables customers to manage inbound routes for voice calls in a more modular way.
  • Response pagination traversal: Customers can process and present large response datasets in chunks to deliver a better end-user experience.
  • View phone number attributes: Customers can view phone numbers based on attributes such as E911, CNAM, and inbound routes.

In addition to the new API, Flowroute’s library of SDKs – Python, PHP, .NET, Ruby, and Nodejs –  have been updated to support not only the new version of our Numbers API but also our Messaging API which includes the ability to send and receive MMS messages.
