The skies abruptly darkened over New York City today, as a severe thunderstorm descended on the region. Grand Central Station suspended service and the apocalyptic storm threatened to flood all five burroughs.

Throughout the afternoon and early evening, the National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for upstate areas  and severe thunderstorm warning.

New Yorkers posted pictures and video to Twitter.
