The House Judiciary Committee is expecting notification by 5 p.m. Friday that special counsel Robert Mueller's report has been delivered to Attorney General Bill Barr, Washington Post national security reporter Ellen Nakashima reported Friday.

The former FBI director was named in May 2017, shortly after the firing of his successor James Comey, to investigate possible collusion between President Donald Trump's campaign and Russia.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller to head the investigation and oversaw the nearly two-year-long probe that has resulted in the indictments of 27 individuals and three Russian entities, and eight guilty pleas.

Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to fraud, conspiracy and obstruction charges last year and agreed to cooperate with investigators, which Trump's deputy campaign chairman Rick Gates also agreed to do after pleading guilty to similar charges.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort also pleaded guilty to conspiracy and obstruction charges as part of Mueller's investigation.
