5 Do’s for Winter Hot Tub Care

5 Do's for Winter Hot Tub Care560

One of our favorite times of year to use our hot tub is during the winter months when it’s brisk outside and cozy warm inside the hot tub. There’s nothing quite like watching the steam rise off the hot tub in the depth of winter.

Yet, it’s easy to get complacent with our hot tub care in the winter, because let’s face it, it’s cold outside!

In this article, we look at the five do’s of winter hot tub care to ensure your spa is ready when you are.

#1: Attend to Your Water Care

Yes, it’s cold. No, it’s not fun to go outside to test your water. But, the key to keeping water that is hot, clear, and ready for your daily soak is to make sure your water is balanced. You want to continue to treat it on a regular basis.

Check the pH and alkalinity levels. Bring us a water sample, and we’ll test it for free.

Finally, be sure to change your silver ion cartridge when it’s time (if you have one).

#2: Keep Your Filters Clean

Even if you don’t use your hot tub every day, you still need to clean your hot tub filters. If you don’t, you’ll end up with cloudy water.

What’s more, if your filters are dirty, your water might have a hard time heating up.

So, clean your filters once a month with filter cleaner.

#3: Do Not Drain Your Hot Tub

There are good times to drain your hot tub and bad ones. The middle of winter falls into the bad time to drain your tub.

If you leave your hot tub empty, you may end up with broken parts because of freezing and cracking. Your better off leaving the water in your hot tub if it’s already there.

#4: Use the Right Cover

The best way to keep your water warm is to cover your hot tub with an official hot tub cover. This is not the place to put a DIY cover over your hot tub.

We can help you find the most appropriate cover for our spa that actually helps keep the warm water inside your hot tub.

You want to think about using cover protector on your cover during the winter to keep it in good condition.

#5: Add Water

Even though it’s cold, you will have water evaporation. Do your best to keep your water level where it’s supposed to be. This will help keep your parts in working order.
