WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER?
Hi, I’m Jim Stroud and this is my podcast.
Do you want to live forever? If you had all the money in the world and you wanted to invest in ways to
become immortal, where would you put your money? Well, I happen to know that some of the richest
people in the world are doing all they can to make death a thing of the past. I’ll tell you how they are
spending their money towards that purpose, after this…

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, has invested in the startup company - Unity Biotechnology. Unity is that
is focused on medicine that slows the effects of age-related diseases like arthritis and blindness. Paypal
founder Peter Thiel is also a big investor of Unity Biotechnology and so too, the Mayo Clinic. At the time
of this recording, shares of Unity Biotechnology fell 20% before sharply recovering. This according to
Yahoo Finance. The reason for the drop? The company reported data from a phase 1 clinical trial for its
2. drug – UBX0101, which was being used to treat moderate to severe osteoarthritis. The results were
mixed which suggests to me, more studying needs to be done.
Of all the investments I discovered around prolonging life, I think that was the most plausible; at least,
for the near future. Here are a few more that seem… less likely but, you never know.
Netflix has a show called – Altered Carbon. It’s a dystopian sci-fi mystery set in the far future. The
centerpiece of the show, in my opinion, is the technology that allows you to back up your mind and soul
onto a computer chip. Once you back up your data, you literally live forever by upgrading the artificial
body you inhabit. The premise sounds unreal unless you are Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX.
He’s been developing a technology called – Neuralink because he believes humans must become one
with machines in order to survive being replaced by artificial intelligence.
Elon Musk was interviewed about Neuralink on the HBO show – Axios. There, he said this. [video clip]
As I researched more about these extended life type of companies, PayPal Founder Peter Thiel’s name
popped up again. Not only has he invested in Unity Biotechnology but, he is also a key investor in
Ambrosia. What is Ambrosia, you ask? Well, quite simply – it is the blood of young people transfused
into the blood of older people, so they can feel young again. In Silicon Valley, this is a thing. Here is a
quote from Daily Mail.
Larry Ellison, 73, co-founder of Oracle, is investing in start-ups working on the 'age-reversing' technique,
according to The Times. Speaking to his biographer, Mr Ellison once said: 'Death has never made any sense
to me.' The parabiosis technique involves transfusing the plasma from 'young blood' into older people,
but it doesn't come cheap. Ambrosia, a start-up based in San Fransisco, offers plasma infusions at $8,000
(£6,180) for just two litres, to anyone aged over 35. The firm sources the blood plasma - which comes
from 16-25 year olds - from blood banks. Speaking to The Times, Ms Jesse Karmazin, founder of Ambrosia,
said: 'Our first clients were biotech chief executives. 'Now it's broader. More men, mostly in their sixties,
though it ranges from thirties to nineties.
However, the Food and Drug Administration is more than a little bit skeptical. Wochit News reported
this…
Okay, I have one more example of rich people trying to cheat death. It reminds me of an 80’s icon – Max
Headroom. Maybe you remember his talk show, his sci-fi show or one of his Coke commercials? [play
Coke commercial]
For those who don’t know, on the Max Headroom scifi series – Max was an AI personality set in a
futuristic dystopia where the world is ruled by television networks and off switches are forbidden. It was
one of the most imaginative things on TV at the time and, even now. Do yourself a favor and look up
some of the old shows on YouTube. Come to think of it, I’ll link to some of the episodes from
JimStroud.com. But I digress…
In real life, a certain Silicon Valley billionaire wants to do the same thing. Make a computer duplicate of
your brain that can be simulated into a computerized version of yourself in the future. [ Yes, you too can
become a Max Headroom type of artificial intelligence. ] There’s only, one catch. Let me quote The Sun
who reported on this.
3. A Silicon Valley billionaire is paying the ultimate price for the chance of immortality: Death.
Entrepreneur Sam Altman is one of 25 people who have splashed the cash to join a waiting list at
Nectome – a startup that promises to upload your brain into a computer to grant eternal life to your
consciousness. There's just one (huge) catch: it has to kill you first. The process, as described in MIT
Technology Review, involves embalming your brain for it to potentially be simulated later in a computer.
The living customer would be hooked up to a machine and then pumped full of Nectome's custom
embalming chemicals.
Man has been seeking ways to reverse aging for centuries and no better example of that can be found
than in the legend of “The Fountain of Youth.” Supposedly, the Fountain of Youth is a spring that
restores the youth of anyone who drinks or bathes in its waters. Tales of such a fountain have been
recounted across the world for thousands of years. The legend of the Fountain of Youth became
particularly prominent in the 16th century, when it was attached to the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de
León, first Governor of Puerto Rico. Come to think of it, maybe all the technology I discussed earlier is
simply a new chapter in a very old legend. Then again, maybe not. Time will tell.
