Massive investment in education is the way forward
The Ashanti Regional Education Director, Mrs. Mary Owusu-Achiaw, has called for massive investment in the sector to significantly raise school performance.

She said this was the way forward to assure the nation of quality human resources to give impetus to its development.
She was speaking at the official opening of the 23rd annual meeting of the Conference of Directors of Education (CODE) in Kumasi.
“Investing in quality education for positive transformation of the youth for national development” was the theme.
The meeting provided the platform for the education directors from across the country to discuss ways to promote quality teaching and learning.
Mrs. Owusu-Achiaw said there was no doubt that Ghana had made strong progress in the areas of access and gender parity in schools.
The same, she noted, could however, not be said of the quality and this was something that should engage the attention of all stakeholders.
She said it was important for all stakeholders to combine their efforts to achieve the desired improvement.
She reminded the directors to do more to closely monitor the progress and find ways to deal with identify challenges.
Mr Hayford Kwadwo Osei, National Chairman of the Conference, appealed to the government to provide the directors with the necessary logistics to perform their assigned tasks.
He said he found it difficult to accept why the directors should “walk to schools to do supervision”.
That, he said, would have to change, adding that, they needed to be motivated.
Mr. Frank Yaw Musah, the Ashanti Regional CODE Chairman, said the meeting would strengthen the capacity of the members to perform their task effectively.
