LAKE COUNTY — A man has been arrested in connection to the 4,000-acre Clayton Fire burning in Lake County, officials said at a news conference on Monday night.

Damin Pashilk, 40, of Clearlake, has been arrested on suspicion of 17 counts of arson.

Cal Fire Chief Ken Pimlott said the 17 counts were related to numerous fires started in Lake County over the past year. Pimlott would not discuss the other fires, he would only say some of the arson charges were related to the Clayton Fire.

Pashilk was booked into the Lake County Jail on Monday.

The arson charges Pashilk faces in connection to the Clayton Fire will also carry enhancements due to the destruction of homes and businesses, Cal Fire said in a statement.

The Clayton Fire started Saturday and has charred 4,000 acres and destroyed at least 100 homes. The fire is just 5 percent contained.
