Alarming CCTV footage captured the moment they violently set upon him in order to steal his phone.
Police are now hunting the gang who hospitalised the 19-year-old in the savage attack at about 10.15pm on April 30.

The victim was walking to catch a bus in Streatham, southwest London, when he was attacked by a group of youths.
He was knocked to the floor and suffered cuts to his face, head and lips, before being knocked unconscious by the savage blow from the chair.
The teen was taken to hospital but fortunately was not seriously injured.

Met Police released the CCTV footage, which features eight suspects, in the hopes of tracking them down.
They are described as black males, aged between 14 and 16, and wearing dark hooded tops.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the individuals in the CCTV footage or stills or who has information that could assist the investigation
A 13-year-old boy was arrested on 30 April on suspicion of affray, robbery and possession of a class B drug.
He has been bailed pending further inquiries to a date in late November.
