SPRINGFIELD,Mo–A place that helps animals is needing your help.

The Southwest Missouri Humane Society is picking up the tab after a four legged animal was hit by a car and injured.

The shelter went no kill back in December which has been a great thing for animals in the Ozarks, but the change has been causing the shelter to pay a lot more money out of pocket to save injured animals.

Donna Casamento, Executive Director at the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, tells KOLR10,”Who isn’t worth it you know?Every animal deserves a chance at life. Every animal deserves to be healthy and strong.”

To say the Humane Society is in need of help,is a bit of an understatement.

“When we are faced with a situation like this we never know on a day to day basis what’s going to happen, whose going to show up,and going to need our help.

Casamento says they need a miracle.

“We have to have resources set aside to be able to take care of these guys.We want to help them. We want to be there.”

Branson is just one of the furry animals they’re helping following an accident.. He was stuck by two cars and left with two broken legs.

Now, the Humane Society is left with a $ 3,000 bill.

“We knew here at our facility we didn’t have the inhouse resources to care for that, but that doesn’t stop us.That doesn’t mean we’re not going to do everything we can to get the medical care that they need.”

The shelter went No Kill back in December and while it’s a great way to keep animals alive,Casamento says they can’t do it alone.

“What we are trying to do is reach out to the community and say dogs like Branson, and other dogs that need our help here at the Humane Society count on the people in the community.”

Since the  No Kill initiative the Humane Society has increased its adoptions  by 65%.

“We’re happy with that because that means we’re keeping them alive. But that also means that we are faced with trying to raise more money and trying to have more resources available to be able to do this live saving work

Salam Eche, Humane Society employee, explains,”The stories can be heartbreaking sometimes, but I kind of look at it as I’m helping them out. And what happens, happens, but right now I can help.

Casamento tells KOLR10 while Branson has recovered from the accident all he  needs now is a family!
