No other name is as resounding in the arena of Philippine Scriptwriting as the name, Ricky Lee.  With more than 150 produced film scripts since 1979, a little over 50 awards received for his body of work, including the top prize in the CNN Asia’s Top Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Asia-Pacific Film of All Time; a life achievement award from the critics group, Urian; accolades from the Cutural Center of the Philippines and the University of the Philippines. His films have been shown in prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Toronto Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival to say the least. His masterpieces Himala, Salome, Brutal, Moral, The Flor Contemplacion Story, Anak, Rizal and a lot more are now considered modern classics.

Lee began as a young writer when his first piece got published way back when he was in forth year high school. Since then, Lee has never ceased churning out ideas and stories that reflected life in its full reality and beauty. Lee’s experiences coupled with his insatiable love for books, music, film and all forms of art has made Lee the creative person he is now.

Lee is also a fictionist, a journalist and a playwright . He has published the first book of screenplays in the Philippines; a scriptwriting manual entitled , “Trip to Quiapo,”  which is a required text in communications courses in the Philippines and bestselling novels in Filipino.

He is currently the Creative Manager of the country’s top media network, ABS-CBN handling popular and acclaimed television dramas such as Mangarap Ka, Maging Sino Ka Man, Vietnam Rose, Ysabella, Lobo, Magkaribal, Imortal and the Malaysian co-produced series Kahit Isang Saglit.

Since 1982, Lee has been conducting scriptwriting workshops, producing hundreds of graduates who now work for TV and film, both mainstream and indie cinema, whether as writers, directors, creative and production staff. His current workshop the Philippines which is now in its application period has reached almost 5000 applicants, but only 30 will be chosen from these aspirants.

This October, International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) is bringing Ricky Lee to New York City to honor him with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Screenwriting at the IFFM Awards Night on October 20, 2016 at the Philippine Consulate’s Kalayan Hall 556 5th Ave NY NY 10036.

“Himala,” Lee’s critically acclaimed film will be screened at the on October 17, 2016 at 7pm followed by a question and answer portion. The Screenwriting workshop proper will  be on October 18 and 19, 5 to 10pm at the Producers Club 358 W 44 St NY NY 10036.
