Driver decides to take to the road after not diving a manual for eight years

If you’re thinking about driving after several years without even touching a steering wheel, you might want to brush up on your highway code first.

Georgia Burke, 29, admitted to not driving a manual since she passed her test eight years ago.

So to celebrate, the social media manager decided to take a car out onto the busy London roads (not a bright idea).

‘I’m just shaky because I haven’t driven for ages,’ she says.

Georgia starts out a little shaky
Georgia said she was lacking confidence

Georgia said: ‘I sat my test just before I finished university. I knew that I wouldn’t be driving a lot given I live in London and it wasn’t a necessity, however a lot of people I knew had their licence.’

Research by comparethemarket.com shows that Georgia isn’t alone, with nearly a million Brits not having driven since passing their test

And 4.55 million drivers are ‘parked’, which means they haven’t driven in at least a year.

If you’re thinking of taking to the road after a league of absence, you might want to start with an empty car park.
