Studio Ghibli’s first ever TV show, Ronja the Robber's Daughter, is coming to the West for the first time this year. Thanks to Amazon Prime, the entire 26-episode series will finally be available outside of Japan, with The X-Files' Gillian Anderson currently leading the cast of the English dub.
The series is based a 1981 fantasy novel by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, and follows the adventures of a gang of woodland thieves. They’re led by a young girl (the titular Ronia), and are forced to face challenges from a slew of strange creatures, as well as from rival groups in the area.
Ronja the Robber's Daughter will be directed by Goro Miyazaki, the son of Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki. According to reports, the series will premiere on Amazon in the US, UK, Germany and Austria later this year. In the meantime, check out the original Japanese trailer below:
