Greene County sheriff's deputies have arrested a teenager in the stabbing death of an 80-year-old woman Friday night.

Around 11 p.m., authorities found Mary Shisler's body in a field near her home, in the 8300 block of North Farm Road 223, with visible stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say they were called to Shisler's home around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, after a neighbor noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the driveway.

The neighbor told deputies that the back door was open and the home ransacked, and upon their arrival, deputies could not locate Shisler or her car.

Webster County deputies later found her car when it pulled into the driveway of a house, whose owner called 911 to report suspicious behavior.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper soon took the 16-year-old male driver, from Republic, into custody and transported to the Greene County Juvenile Detention facility.

Later that night, around 11 p.m., authorities found Shisler's body in a field near her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a news release, Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott said it appeared the incident was "a complete random act of violence with very tragic results," and that neither Shisler or the suspect had any ties to each other.

The investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy has been scheduled for next week. Charges are expected to be submitted to the Greene County Juvenile Division for further review.
