After first showing off a wild 1000-horsepower electric race car concept at this year's CES, electric car startup Faraday Future promised its next car would be a production-ready SUV-like thing. We know next to nothing about the car itself, but Faraday has begun releasing extremely brief teasers.
The latest one, shown below, is just as short as the last one, but instead of giving us any answers, it actually raises more questions.
Specifically, what's the deal with the concept's wheels? You barely get to see any of the car and instead mostly see wheels. But unlike the wheels on most test vehicles, these are camouflaged. Which is weird. If they're just wheels, what is there to hide?
Then there's the statement "Who said don't reinvent the wheel?" Normally, we'd assume it was a reference to the car being electric and likely offering some sort of self-driving mode. But in a teaser that's so focused on camouflaged wheels, it seems more likely that the phrase is literal.
What we can't figure out, though, is what's so special about these wheels. Could Faraday have developed dampers that recover energy from the road like Audi is working on? Possibly, but that wouldn't require the wheels themselves to be any different.
Could these wheels be designed to suck air through them to better cool the brakes? Again, it's possible, but it wouldn't be groundbreaking. BMW did the same thing years ago.
Are the wheels somehow also the car's batteries and this car is a perpetual motion device? We're not saying Faraday has broken the Laws of Thermodynamics, but perhaps it did?
Thankfully, the car is set to be unveiled at CES in January. Hopefully we'll figure out this mystery then.
